Where Does Your Jewelry Hang

I've had many jewelry boxes but for some reason I never used them. I'd al-
ways toss my jewelry on top of the dresser or sometimes the vanity in bathroom.
It was fine with me I knew where things were and it's all within reach! That has
all changed since I became a grandmother of little girls!! Let me tell you lil girls
like things of color, they like sparkles and most of all they like to play with Granny's
things! Things are never put back where they came from and after they get their
hands on them you can usually count on finding things in a tangled mess. I had
to come up with a solution to make things a little easier for them and myself! No
sense in telling them it's off limits, that's half the fun of being at Granny's  rummaging
exploring through her vintage items, cause you all know I'm ancient to them!!

So with paint, cork, frame, tea cup holders, fabric and coffee cup holder I got busy!

Although I have quite a bit of jewelry to go missing (under the couch, in the toy box)
it's still a lot nicer than before. There aren't any tangled chains, the dresser doesn't
look half as messy and the girls still have fun while visiting Granny! So I'm happy.
The coffee cup holder turned ring keeper holds quite a few rings BUT some busy
bodies were playing and knocked it behind the dresser, and yours truly hasn't felt
like pulling out the dresser to reclaim rings from the Dust Bunnies that I'm sure has
moved in! Hey as my son so fondly reminds me "This is real life here" which means
sometimes I don't clean behind the dresser or under it either!!!

BTW, the hat on the dress form is my 'I'm Crazy About Charlie Wilson Hat' and
it is OFF LIMIT. The last two years I was able to see Charlie perform on my bday.
2009 I went to The Windy City to see him, I was so disappointed cause I couldn't
make my way to where the hats were being sold, but 2010 I went to the Hamilton
Beach Jazz Festival to see him where I made sure to purchase a hat. Oh I know
I could have made it for far less than I paid for it but it wouldn't be the same!

Foxy

Foxy came very close to ending up on the curb.  I found this table on Craigslist.
Asking price was $10. When I went to pick it up, the young lady was waiting
on her front porch with it. She brought it out to the drive way before I had even
cut off the motor! I might have thought it odd but I didn't give it much thought.
One reason being it was very cold out, another was that I wasn't feeling well to
begin with. Usually, I send family members to pick up items I find on Craigslist
but no one was available this day. I did a quick glance over then handed over the
money. I attempted to put the table into trunk of my car to no avail, it
wouldn't fit into the back seat either. Nice lady offers to follow me in her truck
since I had already told her on phone she lived only a couple of blocks from me!
She sat it down in my driveway and drove off. This table is solid wood, I
struggled with it, as I said earlier I wasn't feeling well, weight of table caused
me to wheeze even more or so I thought. I got it through my front door and let
it stay til some one could come over and move it for me. When the table was lifted,
I was standing in a position to see the bottom, OMG. The owner had CATS
(sorry I don't like cats, I'm afraid of them) I told cuz to take it out to the trash.
He said he could clean it for me and he did!

I have more pictures that show proof of the cats but I didn't want to turn you
away before you saw the end results, I know cause I almost didn't do this one!
I just couldn't believe she hadn't thought to clean it up. I just thought it was dusty
from being in storage when I saw it on CL, but she told me they had gotten new
furniture that week and it didn't match the style! What? Anyway it was bleached

down, sanded and primed with Kilz's odor and stain blocker.

The color is Silver Fox by Valspar. I then glaze it with Ralph Lauren's Smoke Glass.
The hardware is original to the piece painted in Krylon's Silver. I'm glad I listened
cause I really like how it turned out. When ever I use glaze I'm scared the whole
time thinking it's not going to look good, that I'm doing it wrong, and each time I've
done it I've ended up loving the end result! Funny how that is! With her curves all
glazed she's foxy and ready to go. Now comes the hard part, to keep or not. I've
had two offers but I really like her!

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Remember This?

I finally got around to fulfilling a girl's birthday wish! Three years ago around 3 a m
I was awaken by sirens and my telephone ringing. The sirens were going because
a tornado had been sighted, on the other end of telephone line was my daughter,
she called to say she was on her way to the hospital because she was in labor! Not
only was she in labor but she was also in the path of the tornado!! Talk about being
happy and afraid at once, I was going out of my mind. She arrived safely  and
within hours my first granddaughter made her entrance into God's world.

Just like the morning she arrived, she's a whirlwind of energy full of life! She's all
over the place. She's as rough as the little boys in the family but very girly girly too.
She likes to play with boy toys, she will reach for a car or transformer before
she reaches for a doll. Loves to get her nails painted, carries chap stick (lip stick)
in her pocket, and right now she insists on wearing dresses and stockings daily,
no jeans even though it's cold out...

When I asked what she wanted for her birthday, she replied " a pink DS, a bike and
a green mirror"...........

At Dollar Tree I found a wall sticker that said Once Upon A Time There Was A
Princess (in pink). I bought it, when the mirror is hung the sticker will go above it. I
used the Forever Young cartridge for the mirror image. I think it turned out nice,
how about you?

THAT'S THE WAY I FEEL ABOUT 'CHA (Original Full-Length Album Version) - ...

You know today is about love and most people will remember to say I love you
to their other half, but I think we all should take the time to remember that it's
not just about I love yous but us. Spread a kind word where you might not have
otherwise, share your time with someone you know is all alone in this world, such
as take a trip to your neighborhood Senior Home or Nursing Home. Most of
all spread your love through out the year not just today because this day is
set aside for it! Just my two cents....

An Artist

I met this young lady on Facebook. She is an up and coming Artist. We be-
came acquainted  through our love for all things crafting. We started to comment
on other things besides crafts and in time gained a respect for one another and
I believe a genuine friendship. Adina McCollough is on her way to great things.

To see more of her work please go here . I promise you won't be disappointed!
I bet you'll want to place an order!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Early Bird Gets The Prize

I've become so accustomed to looking for bargains that it's not often I buy
items at full price. I try and wait until the items go on sale, clearance is
even better! There was a time when I didn't bother to compare prices or
take the time to consider if it was worth the asking price, if I wanted it I got
it. Well let me tell you my friends, times have changed! IMO for the better.
I have been known to miss out because of being  stingy oops I mean thrifty.
For instance I searched the weekly sales ad for this tablecloth. Last week
I noticed it had finally been marked down! I couldn't go out but in all honesty
I wasn't worried, I just knew there would be a few left! Last evening I buckled
up to face the cold weather and off to Target I went huffing and puffing the whole
way (wheezing)!! It's just like my G always told me "It's the early bird that gets
the worm baby". Sold out! It was my intention to use it for curtains and lamp
shades. Disappointed I browsed a while longer, finally coming to the bath
section. Hey now it's gonna be alright, Mama found something else to replace
that ole table cloth!

Can you see what that is? No?

That's right, Shower Curtain! I figured if I got it home and found it wouldn't
work in the space, no foul, it could always be used for it's original purpose.

I Can't Stop Smiling

I've always loved some form of crafting since I was a young girl, showing it
off to family and friends. You kinda get the impression that loved ones are biased
when critiquing your work. But it means a lot when some one gives
positive feedback especially, when you see the many creative and beautiful
projects they have accomplished. I do whole heartdly thank all of you for your
kind comments, support and giving me so much inspiration to have the
nerve to post and share my crafts.

I am a new blogger and to my surprise being awarded the Stylish Blogger
award has truly overwhelmed me with excitement

I like to take this moment to personally Thank Someone whom is
encouraging me and continuously showing me great concern even in
my day to day well being. I can't even find the words to truly express
my gratitude to Brandi Don't Disturb This Groove for honoring me with the
Stylish Blogger Award!

Brandi with all of my appreciation, I am formally Thanking You for stopping

7 Things About Me:

1. Believe it or not I'm shy! I don't normally approach new people, I stand back
and wait for them to make that move.

2. I love music, all genre, but to clean house or when I'm extremely happy I play
the Blues! Odd to most, but instead of bringing me down it lifts me up, makes
me feel oh so good.

3. I have a shoe, purse and hat fetish. I have so many that they're falling out of
the closet. I have plenty that still has the tag on them, sinful I know, but I can't
help myself, well I could if I tried but I don't even think twice about it when I
come across something that I like.

4. I have 9 grand children, 6 are boys! Guess what? I still have two daughters
that have no children yet, although one is getting married this summer! More to
come you think? I hope so.

5. I'm asthmatic. Enough said on that.

6. I started making mood boards when I was 12 yrs old from album covers and
cuts out from catalogs. My mama used to threaten me with punishment if I de-
stroyed one more of her album covers each time she found one missing!

7. Last but not least, when ever I refer to the girls I'm talking about Reese & Storm,
trouble on 8 legs. Reese is a chihuahua, and I can't tell you what Storm is besides
loved....

Waste Not Want Not

I rarely throw anything out before checking to see if I or family/friends can use
it for other purposes. I save everything even if I have no need for it at that time!
It's kinda like saving your skinny clothes, you know one day you'll be able to
get in them again. I look at the objects and think one day this will come in handy.
Sometimes I have my daughters in mind when saving things, they are always
shopping here, I can't complain for real I used to do it at my mom's!

When I decided to redo my dresser, I knew I couldn't reattach the double mirror
that was on it. It served it purpose and was in good shape, it just wasn't my style
any longer, I don't think it ever had been. I bought the dresser off Craigslist
for $50 I believe. I was in desperate need at the time for more storage so I
really didn't care about the look so long as it was in good condition and the
drawers were sturdy.

The mirrors sat in my storage shed for months until I could get some muscles
to separate the two, yeah sad to say but I'm weak! Once that happened I
used wood filler where they had been attached. Because I was impatient
I started sanding them after a day of drying time, it was too soon, refilled and
waited a few more days. I chose Krylon's Khaki. They now rest on either
side of the door outside my powder room.
