$20 Find

I've been searching quite some time for a floor model stereo, I've
come across several on CL only to be told sold! When I inquired
about this one I was told that someone had made arrangements to
pick it up the following morning, oh well another one bites the dust!
A few days later I received an email saying they had failed to do so
and if I was still interested it was all mine.

While talking to Mama recently I discovered that she was on the
hunt for one as well so I've decided to redo this one and surprise
her for her upcoming birthday!

Sorry for quality of photo, taken with my cell.

OAN: Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong as far as the font
goes? I click on Trebechet and that's what I get while composing but as
soon as I post, I get the cursive font, call me slow cause for the life of
me I can't seem to figure it out. Help!

Sears Slow Cooker

Last spring I attended a Church Rummage Sale, I came across this slow cooker.
There were 3 of them priced at $5 each.  I picked up one and carried it around
while I looked for other goodies. By the time I got around to paying for it it was
half off time! Payed for it and went back for a 2nd so yeah I got 2 of these for the
price of one.  Looking on ebay and etsy I see that they start off at $25 & up so I
feel like I scored once again!

Other than heating some water in it when I first purchased it to see if it works I
hadn't used it til today! At this very moment I'm trying a Pot Roast! Will let
you know how well it does tomorrow.

Want a great recipe for an easy Pot Roast for crock pot or slow cooker?

3-4 lbs boneless pot roast
1pkg Au Jus mix
1 pkg Italian seasoning mix (dressing)
1 10.5 oz beef broth
1/2 can of water

Place roast into pot, mix all the ingredients together and pour over roast. Cook for
9-11 hours or until tender!

The Small Stuff

My youngest child has a love for thrifting just like her mom. I mean she will
actually spend a day in and out of thrift stores, whereas her siblings will say
"Ma if you see such and such will you get it for me"! Oh the fun she and I
could have if only she lived nearer! This child whom resides in ND will shop
Craigslist for my state, find what she likes, give me a call to go pick up! You
gotta love her!

She was here back in August and went shopping through my stash. She found
so many things she wanted that I just couldn't stand to part with, not even for
Angel baby! However I did begin to look for duplicates while out on my hunts.
I found a few things in NY this past summer! So todayI'm painting some of those
small things and giving a lil TLC so I can get her a box off in the mail.

My Brave Young Child

Craigslist's Lamp I drove 20 miles to get for her

"Ma leave as is" Black with bronze undertone

That napkin holder will be used for mail

Cat has a twin in our family
You can't see it clearly but the fork and spoon are gorgeous! Her accent color
is Red so I dried brushed these so that the wood would still show through! I
have a similar mail holder that she wanted to take but I couldn't part with it,
so now she has her own! I picked up the Kitchen art awhile back, might have
been last summer, I had no place to put it, I was saving it til I moved, oh well
I can admire it when I visit. My mom has a cat similar to this one that she made,
she uses it as a door stopper, Angel has always loved it, Mama has promised it
to her, well when I came across this one I just had to get it for her, I'm only going
to do some small touch ups.  This is how I'm spending my Lazy Sunday.

A New Step Stool

Well I finally finished the stool with the exception of adding rubber to the
steps. Boy was it a job! It was more than I expected, once I removed the
seat cover it was Rust City... It looked as if I was about to tackle an Ant Hill
or a mound of red clay! At one point I thought of throwing in the towel, but
it's hard for me to quit or throw anything away as I've stated before.

I should have worn a mask but I didn't realize so much debris was flying a-
round in the air. I quickly realized my mistake once I started to wheeze and
get dizzy! I had to take a day off from this bad boy.  The work was well worth
it in the end because I'm pleased with the result and it's going to come in very
handy. How? My second oldest daughter is expecting! Yay number 10 is on the
way!!! She can no longer lift Sugamama (grand baby #7) to wash her hair, so
luckily I finished this right on time. Sug can sit and lean back or get on her knees!

I spent less than $6 to complete this! Fabric was $3 and some change, and the
vinyl (to protect fabric from the kiddos) was about $2.66 for a yard. Of course
I didn't use even a half of that. The rubber door mat was a dollar, I've yet to
cut and attach it.

I had to use my cell phone to post these pics because sadly my computer
crashed a few days ago, I don't know if I've lost my photos yet!

I hope you like the stool I sure do...

Kitchen Step Stool

While at an Estate Sale I came across something pushed back in a corner, oh
boy was it ugly! I asked how much they wanted for it and was told a buck. I
thought why not, if I can't redo it, it's only a buck I lose. You should have seen
the looks I got as I passed others to carry it to the cashier. Those that attended
the sale with me asked if I had lost my mind! Maybe but who wants to be normal
anyway?! Different should have been my middle name.

Today was such a beautiful day so I thought I'd pull him out and scrub him
down with some soap & water using Brillo Pads. I ran to Joann's to pick out
some fabric, I went straight to the clearance isle and found a nice pattern full
of bright colors. Here's a peek at the ugly before. In a day or two he'll be all
decked out and very useful.....

Oh and I almost forgot to tell you that because it was late into the day, everything
was marked half off, that's right I got him for a mere fifty cents!! Fabric was $3 and
I'm going to use paint and primer that I already have, so less than $5 when it's all
said and done!!!

Face Lift

MJ's room gets a new look. MJ is my mom. A lot of women go shopping to
uplift their spirit, my mom decorates! Sometimes it can be as simple as chaniging
out the accessories in a room, but it has been as major as tearing down walls!

She called me up last week and said I needed to come over because she had
something for me to do. When Mama calls you don't ask what when where or
why, you just get up and DO!

My mom has a 2200 sf ranch style home, from the outside it looks like a small
home, what you see on the outside does not prepare you for what's on the
inside. She has totally redone it. Before it became popular my mom had her own
Mom Cave, we called it the pink room. It's no longer pink but we still refer
to it as such. Once upon a time we weren't allowed in the pink room, unless of
course MJ invited you into her space! There is a very large family/great room
off the kitchen for us. MJ has started to let up on the reigns and now we find our
selves lounging in the pink room.

When I arrived at MJ's, she had already painted the room, taken down the pellet/
cornice box and removed the fabric & batting. She wanted me to redo them. Here
are some before & afters. Sorry the last three were taken with my cell phone.
Christmas Day 2010

The Angel Tree

Cornice is now white with molding

I painted the boxes white and added trim and molding to match the molding
around the doors. My mom and I disagree on the look. I liked the room before.
It was homey to me! My mom says it was cold before whereas now it's breezy
and relaxing. I don't know if you can see but the paint color is a pale minty green.
I forgot the color. So what do you guys think before or after?

Painted Vases

Years Ago HGTV had a show called Crafters Coast To Coast. I loved that
show, tried hard to see it every day. I would jot down ideas in my tablet labeled
Crafts 2 Try. I must confess that I had forgotten all about
it.

My kids have being saying for awhile now that either I'm a Hoarder or a few
items away from being one. The statement may have some truth to it, lol! I
decided to do some downsizing, while doing so I came across a duffel bag full
of crafting tools, pages ripped from magazines, my tablet of ideas among other
things. Well of course I couldn't get rid of that, to prove it was useful and very
much needed I did a project from the tablet.

I didn't exactly use the example I had seen on CCTC cause it involved using
water and spray paint, on this particular day it was raining so I couldn't go out
to use spray paint. Then I remembered similar ideas I had seen out in blogland
using acrylic paint. I have 100s of those small bottles of paint stashed in my paint
closet, and who doesn't pick up those cheap glass vases at yard sales or thrift stores?
Washed in Soapy Water & Set Aside to Dry

Draining

After
I pulled all my materials out and got to work. Select your vases or glasses, wash
them in soapy water and let them completely dry. Once dry, pour in paint, swirl it
around until glass is fully coated then drain off excess paint (pour back into container
to be used again). Clean the rims with a damp cloth. All that is left to do is wait for them to dry!

Woo Hoo Look What I Found

I don't remember where I was headed on that particular Thursday morning. I
do know it wasn't to a Yard Sale because normally I don't go out til Friday!
However en route I saw this sign blowing in the wind and I just had to make
a U turn. Boy am I glad that I did. Although the sign clearly said Yard Sale, it
was in fact an Estate Sale. This bad boy was the second thing I spotted, it was
love at first sight! I had left my purse in the car which left me in a dilemma I
couldn't leave in fear of someone else snatching it up. See it was only $50, how
could anyone pass it up especially at such a low price? It was in very good
condition, no scratches at all. I stood in front of this CC for at least 15 mins
waiting to spot the seller. When he finally came into view I asked if he would
hold it til I went back out to get some money. He agreed and the rest is history.
I was in my car at the time so I had to again ask for a favor, I needed him to
hold it until I could return for it the following day. I picked up some other things
the following day at 1/2 price. I spent $7. I'll show it later.

It's not going in this space, I have no idea what I'll do with it I just knew I
had to have it. I may not do anything with it til I move and have more space!
Yeah I'm considering AZ, Fl and NV.

On another note the lil guy in the picture is Sir Bentley, sneaking a nap on the
girl's pillow while they're out of sight!

Harlequin Tables

A few yrs ago my daughter's friend was moving to Japan, she had decided that
she didn't want the hassle of packing. She gave all furniture away. One day she
called and asked if I wanted whatever what left. You guys already know my re-
ply!

Among the many things she brought over was a 3 piece faux marble table set.
I had no use for it at the time but I DON'T THROW anything away. They set
in storage for quite sometime, then one day, while rummaging through my stash
looking for something to do I came across them.

NY STATE FAIR

After having been ill for awhile, then having to plan a wedding for my baby girl,
I decided to take a much need vacation. I spent 2 wks in Syracuse, then 10 days
in Vegas and from there I headed to Dallas for a week.

You guys already know I hit a few thrift stores. I didn't find a lot of things that ex-
cited me but I came away with a few trinkets which I'll post later.

Normally I collect coffee cups & magnets when traveling but since I already had
both from prior trip to the state of NY I had to come up with something else. While
shopping in Big Lots I came across some placemats that caught my eye, so I bought
a couple of them to make pillows. Afterward I thought it was even better than a cup
or magnet cause every time I make my bed I'll be reminded of the time I spent in
Syracuse!
It had been my plan to use the solid mat as a backing but once I got stated I realized
I didn't need to.

Once I ripped the seam I couldn't believe what I found inside. Ewww! Can you see
it? I'm not sure what kind of bug it was, thankfully it was dead...Scared of bugs y'all.
I took an old pillow that was in storage (something I got from my Mom many years
ago) How many of you go shopping at your Mom's house? Now that my own kids
do it I play dumb about my own past when I yell at them about "I can't have anything
w/o one of you coming in wanting it" I don't mean it for real but I can't make it easy
on them :) So I took the stuffing out the old pillow and put it into the new one.

 I love it!

Featured

Today is the first day I've been on my blog or checked email since last March.
I was unaware that I had been featured, I truly feel bad, please don't think that
I'm unappreciative or in the habit of NOT thanking! You can head over to The
Littlest Crafter to show some love and/or check out her post on me! She has
this No Sew Blanket that I fell in love with and plan to do for my grandboys. I
think they'd love cuddling up with some Roll Tide Blankets this Football Season.

Thanks K.

Pellet Box/Cornice

A few months back I started on 2 boxes for the windows in my bedroom. What should
have taken a few hours, a day at most ended up taking months. This project got put off
so many times I lost count.

The curtains are made from King size sheets. I simply cut and hemmed to fit window. I
intend to put a stencils on them but I just hadn't found the energy as of yet. I'm liking the
look of my windows thus far. By the time I finish I'll probably be moved! Hey you guys
know how it is you never get finish with a room....

A Long 7 Months

When I first started my blog there were a few things that I should have taken
into account but didn't. One of those things is how much time can I seriously
dedicate to it. Although I have the heart and desire to blog, it's not always
possible for me to do so. I don't really want to go into detail and bore those
of you who would rather be seeing some before & afters but I feel I need
to offer an explanation for those of you who have continue to come back and/
or inquire about my well being.

I am a Chronic Asthmatic who also has Fibromyalgia. Maybe you all know
someone or have family members whom suffer from one or both condition. If
so then you know how challenging my days can be. Since March I've spent a
lil time in the hospital and a lot of time in bed.

I'm feeling much better so I thought I'd try my hand at this again. Thanks to all
those that inquired and sent me notes. I really appreciate it, I hope you know
how special you all made me feel....

Still Here

First I'd like to thank you for taking the time to follow me and for your continued
support. I appreciate it so much and you guys make me feel so special when you
leave your comments.

I haven't posted in a few days and I thought I owe you guys an explanation. I
will try and make this short and simple so as not to bore you, I know you come
here to see projects, not read about what may or may not be going on in my day
to day life. I think I mentioned prior that I'm a asthmatic but what I didn't tell you
is that I also suffer from Fibromyalgia. I have good days and bad days. On my
bad days I do good to just sit up in bed. I say that to say that there will be days
that I don't post. Please don't get discouraged with me and leave, I promise to
update as often as I can. I love sharing my diy projects with you guys and I love
hearing from you all as well. Thanks for taking the time to stop by!

No Green Eggs and Ham For Me

                                                  HAPPY BIRTHDAY

"Today you are You, that is truer than true.
There is no one alive who is Youer than You"

Dr. Suess (Happy Birthday To You)

28 years ago I was given a gift and his name is Chris. Christopher Lynn to be
exact! A son like you, I thought could never be. The day you were born, I just
knew God had sent me a blessing and that was you. You are the true definition
of a son in every way. Out of everything I did it was you and your sisters I did
right. Always remember that I know how much you care, I can tell by the relat-
tionship that we share. For a son like you there could be no other.

Oh how the years go by. Oh how time certainly fly. Your laughter and smiles
which go on for miles, warms my heart and soul. My little boy has become a
man. Time may pass day after day or year after year, But the love I have for
you grows nearer and dearer to my heart each day and year. To my son, I hope
you know just how much I love you so. Far or near I'll always be standing by
your side.... Happy Birthday my one and only son!

Where Does Your Jewelry Hang

I've had many jewelry boxes but for some reason I never used them. I'd al-
ways toss my jewelry on top of the dresser or sometimes the vanity in bathroom.
It was fine with me I knew where things were and it's all within reach! That has
all changed since I became a grandmother of little girls!! Let me tell you lil girls
like things of color, they like sparkles and most of all they like to play with Granny's
things! Things are never put back where they came from and after they get their
hands on them you can usually count on finding things in a tangled mess. I had
to come up with a solution to make things a little easier for them and myself! No
sense in telling them it's off limits, that's half the fun of being at Granny's  rummaging
exploring through her vintage items, cause you all know I'm ancient to them!!

So with paint, cork, frame, tea cup holders, fabric and coffee cup holder I got busy!

Although I have quite a bit of jewelry to go missing (under the couch, in the toy box)
it's still a lot nicer than before. There aren't any tangled chains, the dresser doesn't
look half as messy and the girls still have fun while visiting Granny! So I'm happy.
The coffee cup holder turned ring keeper holds quite a few rings BUT some busy
bodies were playing and knocked it behind the dresser, and yours truly hasn't felt
like pulling out the dresser to reclaim rings from the Dust Bunnies that I'm sure has
moved in! Hey as my son so fondly reminds me "This is real life here" which means
sometimes I don't clean behind the dresser or under it either!!!

BTW, the hat on the dress form is my 'I'm Crazy About Charlie Wilson Hat' and
it is OFF LIMIT. The last two years I was able to see Charlie perform on my bday.
2009 I went to The Windy City to see him, I was so disappointed cause I couldn't
make my way to where the hats were being sold, but 2010 I went to the Hamilton
Beach Jazz Festival to see him where I made sure to purchase a hat. Oh I know
I could have made it for far less than I paid for it but it wouldn't be the same!

Foxy

Foxy came very close to ending up on the curb.  I found this table on Craigslist.
Asking price was $10. When I went to pick it up, the young lady was waiting
on her front porch with it. She brought it out to the drive way before I had even
cut off the motor! I might have thought it odd but I didn't give it much thought.
One reason being it was very cold out, another was that I wasn't feeling well to
begin with. Usually, I send family members to pick up items I find on Craigslist
but no one was available this day. I did a quick glance over then handed over the
money. I attempted to put the table into trunk of my car to no avail, it
wouldn't fit into the back seat either. Nice lady offers to follow me in her truck
since I had already told her on phone she lived only a couple of blocks from me!
She sat it down in my driveway and drove off. This table is solid wood, I
struggled with it, as I said earlier I wasn't feeling well, weight of table caused
me to wheeze even more or so I thought. I got it through my front door and let
it stay til some one could come over and move it for me. When the table was lifted,
I was standing in a position to see the bottom, OMG. The owner had CATS
(sorry I don't like cats, I'm afraid of them) I told cuz to take it out to the trash.
He said he could clean it for me and he did!

I have more pictures that show proof of the cats but I didn't want to turn you
away before you saw the end results, I know cause I almost didn't do this one!
I just couldn't believe she hadn't thought to clean it up. I just thought it was dusty
from being in storage when I saw it on CL, but she told me they had gotten new
furniture that week and it didn't match the style! What? Anyway it was bleached

down, sanded and primed with Kilz's odor and stain blocker.

The color is Silver Fox by Valspar. I then glaze it with Ralph Lauren's Smoke Glass.
The hardware is original to the piece painted in Krylon's Silver. I'm glad I listened
cause I really like how it turned out. When ever I use glaze I'm scared the whole
time thinking it's not going to look good, that I'm doing it wrong, and each time I've
done it I've ended up loving the end result! Funny how that is! With her curves all
glazed she's foxy and ready to go. Now comes the hard part, to keep or not. I've
had two offers but I really like her!
